Category: Business, Computer Program

Description:  A program for choosing and “zeroing in” on paint colors for the
                           home/business.

Idea:

A program utilizing a display device, with a large screen ideally, that assists in the picking and “zeroing in”* on colors for interior and exterior decoration of a home/business.

-System specifically for use with computer tablets (IPad, other), but also
 available for use on laptops, Iphones/other.

-The system to give a very realistic display of these colors- as they will sit on the
 wall, post-drying.

-For use especially by professionals (e.g., interior decorators), but also available to
 consumers; perhaps in a “down-sized”, cheaper version (see Adobe Photoshop).

-Print capacity

-Advertising - Get the product featured on interior design/decorating/remodelling
 shows.

*Program is able to take a base color (i.e., starting color), and “tweek” it in
   increments, per the fundamental colors and shades.

    Increment size is flexible (i.e., Add 1% red, Add 10% red) in real-time-  the user
     has, at their fingertips, the ability to move in varying degrees of increments.

Example(s):

         User is an Interior Decorator.  User consults with client at office to find general color schemes client is interested in- with computer device and other (e.g., paint swatches). User then goes on-site with client.  User works with client to make part of Color Scheme #1 more red, part of Color Scheme #2 lighter.  The display device is held up against the walls to show, each time, what a swath of a wall will look like with (particular color).

         Once schemes are chosen, User prints out color scheme(s), and gives them to client or takes/sends them to paint store to order paint.

Future Additions(s):

-Upgrade has database of color I.D.#’s of all major companies.

-Colors that are chosen come with a supporting read-out of the most efficient way to
 reach the color(s) chosen; In essence, the “recipe” of a chosen color (i.e., Benjamin
 Moore color #104, add 15% Benjamin Moore color #322).

-In addition to color and shade, the other qualities of paint are “displayed” and
 “tweekable”, and are given decipherable quantities (to choose actual paint).

-Carpet Expansion - zero in on color and design for carpets.

Confidence:  8 (Provisional*)

I’m sure there’s something like this around, but nothing of this quality, and made to fully utilize the ability of tablet devices.

*One potential problem-  Tablets do not provide a display quality sufficient enough
  to display a true representation of post-dry paint.

    -Solution:  program uses high-def laptops until tablets “catch up”*.

    *Problem-  reduced attractiveness of product, hurting advertising and reducing
                         sales; less ergonomic.

      Confidence:  6
